NATIONAL TRUST HISTORIC COLORS

Victorian Colors

In partnershipwith the National Trust for Historic Preservation®, Valspar® is proud to offer a palette of over 250 colors documented from historic places across the country and representing American colors from a variety of periods and styles.

The Victorian palette is the most varied of the historic palettes. With colors inspired by nature, it ranges from pale earth tones to the darker and often muddier colors typically associated with the period.

Victorian Colors

Also known as Queen Anne.

Lyndhurst America's finest Gothic Revival mansion, Lyndhurst was built in 1838 in Tarrytown, NY, and overlooks the sweeping beauty of the Hudson River Valley.

Distinctly omantic, Victorian architecture marks a unique departure from the symmetry of early American architecture. Asymmetrical shapes, roof ornamentation and heavy, ornate trim throughout defined hallmarks of the Victorian era. Queen Anne homes often feature decorative shingles, trim and spindle work. Though the most recognizable exterior of Queen Anne houses is clapboard siding or shingles, a mixture of materials is also very common. The vibrancy and excitement of the paint colors often match the intricacy of details.
