Valspar Signature Granite Decorative Finish 4.2 5 10 10
Takes time, but well worth the effort! I had walls that were in terrible shape, and did not want to replace all the drywall, or spray on a texture. I found this product at Lowe's [who no longer carries it]. I followed the instructions carefully and obtained a beautiful finish. Everyone who sees it thinks it is beautiful, and I have had many compliments. I found the coverage to be almost exactly as promised on the can. The product is a little more expensive than regular paint, and takes some time to properly apply, but is well worth the effort. After a few years it looks as good as the day it went on. VERY sad I cannot find more locally, as I am ready to redo another room. February 23, 2013
Beautiful Rich Color, Depth of Finish We use the Granite as an accent in our dining room. It is below the chair rail. The sun coming in makes the deep green finish look like suede on the walls. We added a packet of paint crystals, and the effect is mesmerizing. We always show guests to our home the beautiful finish we have achieved. Sorry to hear it has been discontinued. February 23, 2013
If sand is cheap - Why is this so costly? I bought this for a project a few years ago after Lowe's starting discontinuing the Sandstone line. Now they are discontinuing Granite and returning to Sandstone - go figure! If you ever used sandstone - it works well for rolling & not brushing. Granite is just the opposite. I brush it on with a 4-6 inch brush in a lazy back & forth motion - overlapping & being thick in spots. I get a wonderful 'plastered'; look like you see in the great Frank Llloyd Wright homes of the early 20th century. The colors are beautiful autumn ones and lend themselves to contrasting within rooms. The only issue is that the nature of what you are doing has nothing to do with the normal expected coverage of paint and becomes very expensive - probably on the par with wallcoverings. Once you start - you can't turn back. I always underestimate what I need - Figure about 4-5 times what the paint coverage would be. I experimented later with some regular latex & play sand - Same effect! 3-4 cups of sand per gallon might be suggested but decide if you even like this look before you put too much into it - buy or get some drywall pieces and play around to see if is right for you! Good luck! September 19, 2012
We wanted elegant entry way! What we got was very expensive, cat litter, sand paper walls with "no" glitter accents to be found! With huge splotches, roller marks that are very noticeable in the day light which makes more of a trashy entry! Its a split level entry. When anyone including children rub against the wall its has sanded off knuckles, knees, elbows, shoulders! I mean made them bleed, actually like really very coarse sand paper or a very sharp cheese grater. You can see every poor person skin marks on the wall. My husband left his ladder leaning on the wall for 3 weeks, and it looks like two smooth glass ridges are permanently left. And as for coverage, the Lowe's guy said, with the dimensions, I gave should take one and a half gallons, it took 4 gallons, 6 things of glitter! And with all the splotches, to truly cover it would probably take 8 and 20 glitter packets! Oh and I dropped a drips on my peacock blue carpet and it really does look like cat poo, wrapped in cat litter. we have tried everything short of cutting chunks out of it. Even have had it professionally shampooed two times, #and he got his knuckles and elbows! How embarrassing is that?# We went with the rich chocolate brown which I love the color. September 5, 2012
Love the Rustic Texture I love this product. Nearly half of our 3500 sq ft home is painted with it in several colors. It is not easy to apply and takes a little practice. I found a brush works best and two coats are required if you wish to match the color chip. One coat over a different color base has a nice effect also. I found thinning the paint with water on the second coat made it much easy apply and help with the uniformity of the granite. It only takes "A LITTLE WATER" to thin so don't put to much. A 1/2 shot glass to a quart is a good start. The rustic finish also hides flaws in the walls extremely well. Only real negative is that Lowe's is dropping the Granite. July 24, 2012
Great and unique decorating paint! I used this paint in turquoise to refinish some Old end tables. Just stained the tops and used The granite paint on the legs. They are beautiful! I went to Lowes to get more and their decorator Boards said "discontinued" Can we buy this paint Anywhere else? July 12, 2012
granite paint I used the granite paint in our dining room. I debated on putting a toothpick in the holes for our wine holder, then decided against it because all the other paints I have used have sunk in where there are nail holes let alone the screw holes my husband put our wine holder up with. I should have used toothpicks as even with a magnifying glass we could 'not' find any such sink wholes!! We both love the look - but I would not use this in a kitchen area where there is a lot of food. This paint seems to cover about everything and is a great look as well. July 4, 2012
l have beautiful walls now Used this product in 3 of my rooms and would like to do more and having trouble finding it now. I was able to cover up old flowered paneling and uneven plaster walls and they are beautiful now, it was something I could do by myself rather than having to have someone drywall all the walls which was the other option. I am very satisfied and the crystals added a nice touch. Well worth the cost and amt it takes. July 2, 2012
