horrible
I have used other simular textured paints as this with much better results. The coverage was very disappointing and i will have to buy a third gallon of the over priced paint to do what i normally only need one gallon to do.

Different than anything else on the market.
I picked this product because I have never seen anything quite like it in interior paint and I wasnt dissapointed!

This is perfect for porches!
We used this on our outside front and back porches!! We live in WV where sometimes the porches get iced over, so we put this on them and it helps a whole lot (because of the sand texture) with the slipping!!

Great Color and Easy Application
We decided it was time to repaint our living room / hallways. We chose a two tone approach using the sandstone finish paint. The majority of the room was done in a light color with one wall being done in a dark green for accent.
The paint went on well; and the colors look great.
Take your time and do the proper prep; washing walls, filling holes and proper sanding. Our walls were previously done in a flat white paint; the Valspar Sandstone took right to it and covered every bit of each little mark that we couldnt wash out.
As the can states; two coats are definitely needed. Take your time and you'll get professional results that look like you hired an interior decorator.

Get it right the first time!
First coat of paint does go on thin. Second coat went on nicely but when I went back around to touch up I created a mess for myself. When touch ups dried it was spotted and showed lines. Went to touch up again and just made it worse. I'm going to have to re-roll the a couple of walls which means I might have to go buy another pricey gallon of paint that I hadn't planned on doing and hope I don't leave any lines. I use regular paint all the time and never have a problem. This paint is more pricey than I think it should be especially because you have to give at least two coats.

Good Alternative
Ive used Ralph Lauren RiverRock on 3 different houses. After the price doubled and it was only available at specialty stores, I gave this a try and it is just as good.
I have a different tip, this worked well with the RL paint and works with Valspar SandStone. Paint one coat with regular roller. Paint second coat with a sponge roller. This gives uniform coverage and saves paint adding some shadowing and very beautiful effect.

Great product but a few hints and tips
I was looking for something to paint in a fairly large basement room. I thought using just a regular paint would look too sterile. I always love the extra boost of faux paints. I decided to use the sandstone sea salt gray. I am extremely happy with the results, but do have some pointers to share.
1. If you have not done a lot of painting in the past, be sure to practice on a board.
2. The walls I was trying to cover where previously painted yellow. Yellow is known to be a hard color to cover. It took FOUR coats on my first wall. I got smart after the first wall. I purchased a tinted primer and put on the other walls before applying the sandstone. Made a big difference. I then only needed the two coats.
3. The biggest pointer is to only do a small part of a wall at a time. Do not let the paint dry and be VERY careful about rolling over a previosuly painted area. I made sure that my wet edge was rolled out thoroughly....so there was not a thick edge. Otherwise, when you roll over it again - you will have a noticeable overlap. Also BE SURE to roll from top to bottom (with the remaining paint on your roller from the last section...do not reload) after painting a section. This rolling from top to bottom will ensure that there is no streaking. It sort of evens out the color.
If you follow these hints, you will have a beautifully painted wall! Good Luck!

Easy to apply, great look
Our basement recroom had not been painted beyond the contractor flat white and was looking dingy and beat up after a 15 years of use. We wanted something that would cover some of the imperfections and generally improve the look. The Sandstone finish worked beyond our expectations.
The walls have a great sandy/plaster look and it does a great job of hiding small defects.
The application was easier than we expected. It did take two coats, but it rolled on easily. We learned not to edge very far ahead to get the best result. There was a fair amount gritty splatter, but it dropped mostly straight down. As long as you go slow with your roller a 3ft wide drop cloth should catch all the specks.
The paint goes on fairly thick so it doesn't go very far. We used 15 gallons to cover about 1300 sq ft with 2 coats. Expensive, but the result looks like you hired a professional decorator.
