Kitchen Chalkboard
What you'll need:
Here's everything you'll need to get it right the first time.
  • Three quarter inch medium density fiberboard
  • Rope
  • Drill
  • Valspar® Gray Primer
  • Valspar® Chalkboard Paint

 

A chalkboard with a natural rope hanger is a stylish way to keep reminders for yourself or to leave notes for the rest of the family. It's also great fun for the children—you should have enough paint left to make another for the playroom. Making your own chalkboard is easier than you might think - Chalkboard Paint is simple to apply, and has a perfectly smooth, matt, non-reflective finish.

Tip: Several thin coats of Chalkboard Paint will give you a smoother, more attractive finish than one thick one.

 
 
Step-by-Step Guide
 

1. Measure the wall area you want to cover in the kitchen and ask your DIY store to cut a piece of 3/4" thick medium density fiberboard to size. Sand the edges smooth.

2. Drill two holes slightly larger than the width of your rope, in the top corners of the board.

3. Apply a single coat of Valspar® Super Black Primer followed by several thin coats of Chalkboard Paint until you have total coverage.

4. When the paint is dry, thread your rope through the holes, forming a loop at the back. Tie in large knots at the front to secure.

Note: Always follow usage instructions on the reverse of Valspar spray paint cans.
